Sunday, December 22

I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever;
with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known
through all generations.
I will declare that your love stands firm forever,
that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.
You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one,
I have sworn to David my servant,
‘I will establish your line forever
and make your throne firm through all generations.’”
- Psalm 89:1-4
It was eleven days before Christmas, a cold, rainy night and I was in a church
packed full of people, yet I felt like I was the only one there. The atmosphere was
magical, the church was lit by candlelight and organ music was softly playing.
Women were in formal dresses and men in tuxedos. There I was, walking down the
aisle, to meet the love of my life. This was my wedding day.

Out of love, we made vows, "To have and to hold, for better, for worse, for richer,
for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death us do part.”
Those vows were a promise, a covenant we made to one another. Some days we see
those promises lived out, other days, they remind us of what they will be. Out of
love, we have lived out our covenant every day for 45 years.

Out of love, God made a covenant to David, “Your Seed I will establish forever,
and I will build up your throne for all generations.” God kept his covenant to
David with the birth of Jesus, with Jesus’ death and resurrection and Him now
sitting on the Throne for all generations.

Out of love, God has made a covenant to you. “I will be your Savior. . ., I will be
faithful to you. . ., I will walk with you through every circumstance in your life. . ., I
will make a home for you. . ., I will return for you, and you will live with me
forever.” (paraphrased).

Out of love, He came as a baby; out of love, He will come as our King!
