He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.
The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,
and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever;
His kingdom will never end.
Luke 1: 32-33

In this world that we live in, the swirling winds of change blow all around us.
The concept of permanence is a distant thought, maybe even a dream for some.
A familiar phrase is attributed to Heraclitus, an ancient Greek philosopher. He
said “the only thing that is permanent is change.” We are constantly adapting to
one kind of change or another, whether it be the latest technology, a new job,
changes in one’s medical condition, relocation - you name it. Even for those of
us who have been enlightened and drawn to salvation by the gift of God in
Christ, so much of our lives are aligned with temporary things. That’s just the
way it is.
Thankfully, our Father in heaven gives us an amazing contrast between what
we experience in everyday life with that which is to come for those who trust in
His Son. Jesus is the Solid Rock, and He changes not! “And he shall reign over
the house of Jacob forever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.”
With great anticipation, let’s consider the permanence of God’s Kingdom and
His faithfulness as we run the race He has set before us during the current
confines of time, space, and yes—change.
“I will praise Your Name forever, Lord” (Psalm 145).
