Hello,
I pray this newsletter finds you blessed and excited about our future. We recently had
Glenn Akins out to present our community profile to us. It was both informative and
challenging. It reminds me that we serve a big God and are only limited by our doubts and
insecurities. When asked what size church we were, nearly all of us said small or medium,
and yet we were told we were a large church.
We were told about the different people groups we should be reaching but not a lot of context
was provided. So I have done some digging into the different groups, below is a condensed
version of the groups: You can read up about the groups at Mosaic Groups.
Most Effective: J34 - Suburban Sophisticates
Suburban Sophisticates are empty-nesting couples and widowed individuals who live
comfortably on mid-scale incomes. They enjoy quiet lifestyles and spend most of their time
around their homes reading, gardening, and watching TV. They attend activities sponsored by
their church or veterans' club and are fans of traditional media. They care about their faith and
regularly go to church.
Most Potential: E21 - Unspoiled Splendor
Unspoiled Splendor are a group of baby-boomer couples who live in small towns and
subdivisions. They tend to be high school educated and have children who are grown and out
of the house. Both parents are typically in the workforce with their combined middle-class incomes. They enjoy outdoor activities like fishing, hunting, and riding horses. When they
travel, they like to pitch a tent and enjoy nature at national parks or recreational campsites.
They have deep roots in their communities, care about their neighbors, support charities, volunteer for different groups, and serve as community leaders.
Least Potential: E20 - No Place Like Home
No Place Like Home is a segment of multi-generational households that typically have lived
at the same address for more than 15 years and have deep roots in their communities. They
lead laid-back lifestyles, rely heavily on coupons, and prefer learning about brand messages
through direct mail campaigns and social media channels. They resonate with brands that
portray values core to the American dream, and tend to donate money to a wide range of
causes, especially religious and environmental programs, political organizations, and the arts.
Least Effective:O50 - Digitally Savvy/Dependents
Digital Dependents is a segment of young Americans who are mostly under 35 years old
and have started independent lives and families. They are a mix of married couples and
singles, with a majority having gone to college and holding jobs in blue-collar sales and
entry-level positions. They are newer homeowners and renters and have active social
lives. They spend a lot of their free time online and have drastically cut back on more traditional media. Digital Dependents are early tech adopters who want the latest wireless
devices that will support their lifestyle of constant motion. They tend to be liberals who
support the Democratic agenda and are constantly striving for more out of life.
This helps us understand the people in our community, but ministry outreach is very different than marketing to people. We do not want to sell anyone Jesus or our church, we
want them to have a relationship with Christ, and we want to be a part of their lives. This
does give us some insights and principles we can use when planning outreach and events
that people would be interested in. As I have said in the past, we will need to cast a wide
net. It will be easiest reaching the Suburban Sophisticates, the Unspoiled Splendor will
provide great fruit, but if we desire to get younger (and we do), then we must also reach
the No Place Like Home and Digitally Savvy groups as well. We will need all four groups
and more to become a church of 2000 disciples.
Here is to the launch of our Vision 2000, seeking God for a vision that will enable us to
reach our community, actively engaging 2000 disciples for Christ. In the next week, I will
reach out to the various committee chairs to have at least one individual from each committee join the Vision 2000 team. If you would like to join the Vision 2000 team, you do
not have to be on a committee, just reach out to me and let me know. I am excited for our
future, and I know you are as well.

Spiritual Rebirth of a Nation - One Soul at a Time
As Christians in America today, it’s so easy to be utterly discouraged by the precipitous
spiritual decline of our beloved Nation. The USA has largely turned away from God and His holy
Word. We look at the news every day, and it almost seems insurmountable, like the curtains
are about to be closed, BUT...the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is just as POWERFUL today as it was 2,000 years ago, and the Bible tells us we have this treasure in jars of clay (2 Cor 4:7)!
Following is a condensed version of a familiar story written by Loren Eisley (1907-1977):
“A boy was observed by an old man throwing starfish that had been washed up on the beach back into the ocean. The old man asked, ’What are you doing?’ The boy replied, ‘The tide has washed all of these starfish onto the beach, and when the sun is high, they will die.’ The old man said, ‘There are tens of thousands of starfish on the beach. What you are doing
won’t make much of a difference.’ The boy bent down and picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Smiling, the boy looked at the old man and said,
‘It made a difference to that one.’ ”People of God, let’s never give up! Pray, believe, look for
opportunities, and reach one soul at a time. Tell them about Jesus’ love for them personally, and what a difference He’s made in your life, and He can do the same for them. Let the Holy Spirit lead you as you share the Good News. God is ready and willing to save souls
today. Let’s let Him use us...one soul at a time!

All children are invited to participate in our annual
SUMMER BIBLE READING CHALLENGE.
Participants will be reading to meet age-appropriate
goals for the months of July and August.
At the conclusion of the summer, all of our children
who successfully complete their reading assignments
will be recognized and rewarded.

If you are attending TeamKID on Wednesday evenings, you will be hearing all about the SUMMER BIBLE READING CHALLENGE in your classes.
