Rooted in Relationships

Jun 1, 2025    Dillon Evans

In Matthew 5:21–48, Jesus doesn’t make the Law easier—He makes it heavier. He confronts the religious loopholes and cultural compromises that allow people to appear righteous while avoiding heart transformation. Again and again, He says, “You have heard it said… but I say to you…”—and His words are as jarring today as they were then.

This sermon holds the tension of Jesus’ teaching without rushing to comfort. It exposes our anger, our lust, our dishonesty, our broken relationships, and our thirst for revenge—not to shame us, but to lead us to the only One who can bear the weight of true righteousness.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re “doing enough” to be good with God, this message will challenge you. And if you’ve ever felt crushed under the weight of sin, it will point you to grace.

Come discover why Jesus’ words are unbearable… until they set us free.
