He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things
were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or
powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. He is before
all things, and in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church;
He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might
have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and
through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in
heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross.
- Colossians 1:15-20

The News Is
Do you still watch the news? Not too long ago almost everyone could be found
reading the daily newspaper or watching the morning news on TV while getting
ready for work, as well as eating supper by the glow of the evening news. And if
that wasn't enough you could stay up for the 11 o’clock version.
Today it's all-day-everyday at your fingertips. From the bizarre, to the shocking, to
the terrifying. There appears to be no peace anywhere. Only wars and rumors of
wars, disaster, and crime. There's not much in the way of that rural newsletter
GRIT that some of us remember with it's heartwarming tales of neighbors and
family. It can seem that way anyway.
Honestly, you can find anything you WANT to hear, good or bad, with the help of
your friendly neighborhood algorithm. There's not much we can trust and believe
without a good bit of research. Maybe not even then. But…
Praise be to Almighty God that we CAN trust His truth in His Holy Word.
We don't want to be hiding from the world and it's bad news.
The world has always been hostile to God's will and plan. THAT is not news.
Instead, we are called to bring to the world, near and far, The Good News. That is
that Christ Has Come. And He brings peace with God Almighty for those who
believe in the saving power of His Holy sacrifice.
God’s truth IS that He has brought peace to us eternally through our Savior’s
precious blood.
Amen!
