Palm Sunday is an Easter celebration that commemorates Jesus making his triumphal entrance into Jerusalem. The event took place one week prior to His resurrection. On Palm Sunday, the celebration quickly spread throughout the whole city. People even threw down their cloaks on the path where Jesus rode as an act of homage and submission. The palms we wave in our Palm Sunday celebrations represent the palms that were waved by the crowd and placed in Jesus' path when he rode the donkey into Jerusalem.
JOIN US at 11AM Sunday April 13th!!
Our Chancel Choir will present the Easter Musical,
A musical of healing and rejoicing. What better way to celebrate Easter than to reflect on and rejoice in the numerous ways Jesus has healed us! By His wounds, by His death, and by His resurrection are we forgiven, redeemed, and made whole.
On April 17th, in the week preceding Easter Sunday, GPBC will have a Maundy Thursday service. The service will be a Christian Seder Service in the Fellowship Hall. So that we can properly prepare for the correct number of people, you should sign up in the Narthex.
If you feel adventurous and would like to prepare and bring a traditional Passover dish, please see Debra Wood. Children are welcome to attend as the Passover Meal was traditionally a family event but note that sampling of symbolic foods will be included in the service.
To fully understand how we came to be Christians, we are encouraged to understand our roots in Judaism. This service will allow us to experience and learn about the ceremony that started with Israel’s liberation from slavery and ultimately became a blessing for the world through salvation from sin. As Christians, we have the added assurance that our Messiah has come. Come experience this wonderful event.
Maundy Thursday is observed the Thursday before Easter and commemorates the Last Supper when Jesus shared the Passover meal with his disciples on the night before he was crucified.
Maundy is our English word from the Latin meaning mandate. The Lord Jesus Christ on the night of His betrayal gave His disciples a new mandate or command. Jesus said, "Do this in remembrance of me." Maundy Thursday serves as our opportunity to remember through faith, Jesus paid our price to redeem us from eternal death and give us eternal life.
We depart in silence. Reflect on Christ's suffering to save us from the grip of Satan! Return Easter Sunday Morning joyfully, singing praises to the Only Resurrected Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
